My name is Tina Conner and I am the owner of Chris-Cross Learning Center. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been married for 27 years. I have 2 children, 2 sons ages 26 and 23. I also have a grandson! Besides being a mother, I have worked with young children for most of my life. I worked in the Oklahoma City Public School System from 1995 to 2003, most of that time I was employed as the Pre-Kindergarten Assistant. This is where I officially decided to begin a career as a teacher. I graduated from OCCC with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have had numerous courses in Child Development, Childcare Director's courses and I am certified in CPR and First Aid for infants, children and adults as well as Safe Sleep training for infants. I am currently a student at The University of Central Oklahoma, pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
In 2003, I decided to open my own Christian based child care facility. I have been extremely happy with that decision. I previously served in the Moore Family Daycare Home Association as the Vice President. I am an active member of Westmoore Community Church (WCC), and work as a group leader for the Women of Faith here in Oklahoma.
I am licensed and contracted through the Department of Human Services to accept children receiving daycare assistance, as well as private pay clients. I am currently a 2 Star facility and I am licensed for 12 children.
I only enroll ages up to 5. We focus more on problem solving and social skills at this age. After working with children for over 20 years, I have witnessed that without these fundamental skills, academics do not come as easily. In our school systems, teachers do not have time to teach a child how to solve social problems. My goal is to model this skill to each child in my care. They will learn what is and is not acceptable and how to treat others with kindness and respect. We model by using our words to work out problems and when a problem arises that is not handled in a loving and mature way, we guide and encourage the children to admit and taking responsibility for their mistakes, as well as teaching forgiveness.
I also have a passion for sign language. I am not fluent by any means, but we do know and use basic signs for many things. If a sit down, pencil and paper curriculum is what you are looking for, I am not the place. :)
I do offer basic academics, but I do not force it on the children. I allow them to learn naturally through play and I have found that children retain what they have learned when they enjoy the learning process. So please feel free to contact me to schedule an interview if you think this is the environment you would love your child to be in.
