Experience and Training
My name is Tina Conner and I am the owner of Chris-Cross Learning Center. Let me tell
you a little bit about myself. I have been married for 32 years. I have 2 children, 2 sons
ages 31 and 28. I also have a beautiful grandson!
Besides being a mother, I have worked with young children for most of my life. I worked
in the Oklahoma City Public School System from 1995 to 2003, most of that time I was
employed as the Pre-Kindergarten Assistant. This is where I officially decided to begin a
career as a teacher. I graduated from OCCC with an Associate's Degree in Early
Childhood Education. I have had numerous courses in Child Development, Childcare
Director's courses and I am certified in CPR and First Aid for infants, children, and
adults. I have completed the required Safe Sleep training for infants. I have also been
professionally trained to prevent the transmission of, and to recognize and respond to
the symptoms of COVID-19. I am a former student of The University of Central
Oklahoma, earning my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
In 2003, I decided to open my own Christian based childcare facility. I have been
extremely happy with that decision. I previously served in the Moore Family Daycare
Home Association as the Vice President. I am a member of Westmoore
Community Church (WCC), and worked as a greeter, the children's ministry, and as a group leader for the Women of Faith here in
Oklahoma.
I am licensed and contracted through the Department of Human Services to accept
children receiving daycare assistance, as well as private pay clients. I am currently a 5
Star facility and I am licensed for 12 children.
I only enroll ages up to 5. We focus more on problem solving and social skills at this
age. After working with children for over 20 years, I have witnessed that without these
fundamental skills, academic skills do not come as easily. In our school systems,
teachers do not have time to teach a child how to solve social problems. My goal is to
model this skill to each child in my care. They will learn what is and what is not
acceptable and how to treat others with kindness and respect. We model by using our
words to work out problems and when a problem arises that is not handled in a loving
and mature way, we guide and encourage the children to admit and take responsibility
for their mistakes, as well as teaching forgiveness.
I also have a passion for sign language. I am not fluent by any means, but we do know,
and use, basic signs for many things. We are learning ASL as well as basic Spanish. If a sit down, pencil and paper curriculum is what
you are looking for; I am not the place. :)
I do offer basic academics, but I do not force it on the children. I allow them to learn
naturally through play and I have found that children retain what they have learned when
they enjoy the learning process. So please feel free to contact me to schedule an
interview if you think this is the environment you would love your child to be in.
Be Blessed and a blessing to others!
